No, we’re not talking about speed dating at Johnny Mac’s. Rather, it’s time to take a look at the best singles from New Jersey musicians in 2017. We judged them on quality, impact and importance, and here they are, in alphabetical order:
“There Was a Girl” by Karen Mansfield
There are some sweet dark undertones here that nicely frames Mansfield’s alluring voice. This rocker is haunting, in a very good way. “There Was a Girl,” the first single from of Mansfield’s new “Thistle + Boon” LP, was produced by Steve Greenwell and aces like Jack Daley (bass) and Billy Siegel (keys) are on it. Mansfield, a veteran of the Jersey Shore music scene, knows how to write something that you want to hear over and over again.
